A domain name can indeed expire if it is not renewed before the end of its registration period, potentially leading to website downtime and loss of the domain. That's why most domain registrations come with automatic renewal features, which ensure your domain stays registered without any effort on your part.
Here are some reasons why you need to renew your domain:
At Sollutium, domain names are registered for fixed periods and are subject to renewal at any time prior to the expiration of the current registration period.
If you have selected the "auto-renew" option for your domain name registration when purchasing the Service with us, our billing team will attempt to automatically renew the domain name approximately 14 days before its expiration. Auto-renewal will be initiated only if there are sufficient funds in your account. If you have not opted for the "auto-renew" option, we will send you multiple (at least two) notifications to alert you of the impending expiration of your domain name registration. These notifications will be sent via email, beginning approximately 60 days before the expiration date and continuing up to 21 days after the expiration date. To ensure you receive these communications, it is crucial that our email addresses are whitelisted and protected from spam filters and that you provide valid and operational email addresses during your account registration.
If you fail to renew your domain name registration by the expiration date, the registration may be subject to deletion or resale at any time thereafter. To help prevent unintentional deletion, we may, but are not obligated to, provide a "Renewal Grace Period" following the expiration date (the "Renewal Grace Period" begins on the day after the expiration date). We currently strive to offer a grace period of 30 days post-expiration, during which you may renew the expired domain registration. If the Registry Operator provides a longer Renewal Grace Period, we may, but are not obligated to extend the Renewal Grace Period up to the duration specified by the Registry Operator's terms. After 21 days, access to domain management may be limited, and the domain may be listed for resale, but you may still request renewal during any applicable Renewal Grace Period. Expired domain names will be listed on our "Expired Domains" page, thereby making every effort to inform you of the domain's expired status. During this Renewal Grace Period, you may renew your domain name registration; however, this Renewal Grace Period is not guaranteed and may be altered or terminated at any time without notice. Consequently, it is strongly recommended that you renew your domain name registration services before the expiration date to avoid unintended deletion. Please be aware that Sollutium is required to pay Registry Operators for all domain renewals on the day the domain expires if it has not been renewed by you. Consequently, we assume ownership of all expired domains until they are either renewed, auctioned, sold, or deleted.
If an expired domain name registration is not renewed during any Renewal Grace Period we may, at our sole discretion and in accordance with our Domain Registration Agreement, seek a third party interested in registering or purchasing the domain name. In such cases, we may renew and transfer the domain name to this third party, a process referred to as a “Direct Transfer”. However, if you, as the Registrant, submit a request to our support service to halt such a transfer, we may, but are not obligated to not proceed with the transaction. If you do not renew your domain or notify us of your intent to recover the name, we may assume you no longer wish to retain ownership, and the domain may be transferred or resold. Sollutium is under no obligation to issue any refunds to you.
Absent extenuating circumstances, if an expired domain name registration is not renewed as described above, it will be deleted. Registry Operators may offer registrars the ability to "redeem" a deleted domain name registration, and Sollutium may, but is not obligated to, offer you the ability to redeem a particular domain name registration. The Redemption Grace Period (RGP) is typically 30 days from the date of deletion. If the domain name is not redeemed by the end of the RGP, it will enter "Pending Delete" status for an additional 5 days, after which the domain name will be permanently deleted and made available for new registration.
Renewal Grace Periods and Redemption Grace Periods vary for different ccTLDs. Please refer to the specific terms for the applicable TLD. In the event there is a conflict between the provisions of this paragraph and the ccTLD terms, the ccTLD terms shall control.
In cases where a domain name registration is involved in a Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) proceeding and expires or is deleted during the dispute, the party that initiated the UDRP proceeding may renew or restore the domain name registration under the same commercial terms as the original Registrant. If the UDRP case is terminated or the arbitrator rules against the filing party, the domain name may be deleted within 45 days or renewed by Sollutium or by you within the aforementioned grace period.
Variable and Non-Uniform Pricing. You acknowledge, understand and agree that certain domain names in certain TLDs are established by Registry Operators Policies to be variably priced and/or may have non-uniform renewal registration pricing and/or redemption fees (such that the fee for a domain name registration renewal may differ from other domain names in the same TLD, e.g., renewal registration for one domain may be $100.00 and $33.00 for a different domain name). The Renewal fee and/or Redemption fee is displayed at checkout and is subject to change under the terms of this Agreement.
To renew your domain manually, follow the steps below:
Tip: Please note that there will be an annual ICANN fee charged by ICANN, and additionally, a Registry Operator's fee may also be added, depending on the specific Registry Operator's fee structure (hereafter referred to as "Fees"). These Fees are included in the renewal prices.
We'll email you reminders at least sixty (60) days before the domain expiration date at the email address you provided. At least two reminders will be delivered before the expiration date, and one reminder will be delivered within five (5) days. Your domain name will expire if we cannot acquire payment on or before the due date for renewal. Your domain registration will become inactive upon expiration and be replaced with a parking page that notifies visitors that the domain name has expired. Other services you had connected to the domain name may no longer be available. The domain is regarded as abandoned if it is not renewed. We reserve the right to sell, remove, auction off, or otherwise dispose of the name at any time.
It's important to keep your domain name registered for easy accessibility and recognition to your target audience. Sollutium offers automatic renewal and manual renewal features for all domain registrations. A confirmation will be sent to your email if the renewal is successful. Learning how to renew a domain name is important because it ensures you retain ownership and control of your website's domain name. If you fail to renew your domain name, it can be released to the public and potentially purchased by someone else. This could lead to a loss of branding, traffic, and even revenue for your website. You must renew your domain name to maintain your website's online presence, positively impacting your reputation and online visibility. Therefore, renewing your domain name before it expires is crucial to avoid any potential issues.
